Gettin' digits!

The boys came home yesterday and Vince and I started to clean out their backpacks like normal, when I found a piece of paper with a phone number on it. I asked Daniel, who is now 6, if it was his and he said,

"Yeah, its a girl in my class named Kira, she wants to invite me to her birthday party in March or something, so she gave me her moms phone number"

He reminds me of his Uncle Rob occasionally--girls crawling all over them, but could care less! (You know its true Rob!) Besides, with a smile like Daniel's, dimples included, he won't have a chance of getting away from it!

Kaylee update

We went to the doctor and she was able to go home with no oxygen. She literally jumped up and said "Yahoo!" when the doctor said she could take it off. It was really cute. We are very greatful that all we had to deal with was some oxygen for a few days and we realize it could be very worse!

Pneumonia, Asthma and Oxygen

We have had a crazy week! Sadly enough, all three of those belong to Kaylee and here is the basic story:

Last Mon. (19th) we took Kaylee in to check her cough/fever and they couldn't figure out 100% what it was, but said it was 50/50 croupe and asthma, but there may be some underlying pneumonia and to save Kaylee from the trauma of an x-ray, they put her on antibiotics--which I okayed--a steroid and albuterol (breathing treatments). Through the week she did okay, but thanks to this inversion we are having the air quality would not let her breathe well.

Friday started out with Ashley getting her adenoids out and tubes replaced in the morning, supposed to be home by 11am, which ended up being an all day (7:30am-4:30pm) at the surgical center to monitor the low oxygen and high pulse. Then they transfered us to the hospital, ambulance ride included, for low oxygen levels, then being discharged 1 1/2 hours later. (Don't get me started on that!)

Meanwhile, Kaylee had her checkup and ended up not having her oxygen levels stable either. They did an x-ray and found pneumonia and asthma. The doctor sent her home with an oxygen tank and the Praxair people came and hooked up an oxygen machine for her at our house. She has been on oxygen for 2 days now and we have another follow-up appt. tomorrow to see if it has helped. I think she is doing better, but who knows what will happen when we take her off the oxygen!

I managed to get a picture of Kaylee with her tubes on, but none of Ashley! She spends a lot of thime on the couch, but, as you can see, not too long without company!

(Yes, that is Kaylee sucking her finger. We will probably be getting another spacer in a few months! But that can wait for another day!)

LASIK

Yes, I took the plunge! I have been thinking about it for about a year and finally put some money in our flex account and did it. There was no pain, just lots of pressure on one laser, then the smell of burning off cells on another laser and eye drops for the next few months and I can SEE! (All within 1 1/2 hours time span) The only annoying thing is that I have to wear these goggles at night for 5 days to prevent myself from rubbing my eyes in the middle of the night, or getting hit by Vince with a bad dream or something!

They did send me home with a DVD of the surgery, so if anyone wants to request that, I guess I can figure out how to post it, or send it via email! I think the video part would be strictly laser time which would be less than a minute for both eyes.

All in all, I would recommend it for those who can handle things coming at their eyes!

Looking back

I think this week has gone by faster than the holidays! We have celebrated the new year, my birthday, recovering from the holidays and getting back to school--a lot to handle in 7 days! Therefore, getting back to a blog was low on my list, but finally I am here. I know it's a lot, but I am going to purge--if you get through it all, Thanks for listening!

Vince and his brother Kirk are snowboarding tonight--I hope they don't get caught in an avalanche or skid off the side of the road or something--so I have some time to waste.

I guess I should start off with Christmas. It was fun having Christmas Eve at my house this year, we had a little story/scripture reading, a few presents, cookies for Santa and having the kids get to bed at a decent hour was my favorite part!

After that, we had fun ringing in the new year playing games with Kirk, Steph, Naomi, Ray and Julie, including Ticket to Ride (a favorite from Vince's parents) and letting the boys stay up all night for the first time! Daniel made it until 12:30 and Matthew was still going strong at 1:15 when the last guests left and we made him go to bed!
Then, my birthday--sweet and simple like I wanted it. We had fun all day playing more games with Mike, Myla, Marcus and Naomi. Pizza for lunch meant I wasn't hungry for dinner, so we just let the kids have leftovers and Vince made me brownies for my requested brownie sundaes.
As for a gift, Vince didn't think that letting me get LASIK was enough, so he bought me a mandolin! I am getting better at it since it is pretty much a violin, played guitar style. We have been able to do some fun sightreading duets lately, luckily Vince is patient with me. :)
Finally, the kids are back in school and I am having the hardest time getting back to a routine that I can stick with, but I am not defeated! It will work one day, and when it does I will probably be purging again on my blog.....sigh.
That is that. I hope everyone is enjoying their new year!
